A technical documentation website for a new JavaScript library
2021

Project Brief

My client asked for an intentionally minimalist initial design concept for his JavaScript documentation website. With the absence of an existing website, apart from a Github documentation page, I was granted the freedom to reimagine branding and design. The goal was to create a user-friendly platform that simplifies complex documentation, ensuring clarity, organization, and accessibility.

Branding

The app's logo draws inspiration from design elements of my client's current company logo.

Light and subtle background blues and grays are chosen to evoke a sense of trust and calmness. Accent colors including yellows and royal blues highlight hover and selected states.

Allowing the content to shine

For the homepage, I created a more nuanced timezone illustration to help define and contrast the text-heavy documentation on the site.

Clear Organization

Given the website’s complex information architecture, designing a 2-tier top menu was an effective way to get users where they need to go, quickly and intuitively. The left menu serves as a 3rd tier, helping users navigate the selected content. This simultaneous display of all tiers allows users to seamlessly navigate between the multitude of pages throughout the site.
