Revolve sells top-notch fashion, beauty, and accessories from a mix of new and well-known brands. Their Fit Predictor asks the user to choose a brand and size that already fits, and predicts an estimated size. While this tool can be helpful, solely relying on fits of different brands can be inaccurate, and doesn’t necessarily apply to all styles.
TrueFit is a third party plug-in used by many retailers to help shoppers find the right-sized clothing. Like Revolve, it suggests sizes based on a chosen brand, but also asks questions about gender, height, weight, and fit preference to refine its suggestions with a solid UX. Still, its reliance on brand comparisons rather than precise measurements of the customer’s body can lead to less accurate sizing.
I identified the pain points of online shopping, notably with the inconsistent sizing and return hassle. Experimenting with fit predictors on platforms like Revolve and TrueFit revealed a recurring problem: the suggested sizes are still inaccurate. This led me to create a different solution. Users input precise body measurements, optionally aided by a streamlined method of using the phone’s camera. The camera, along with AI, is able to deduce measurements quickly and accurately, offering a more personalized and precise sizing solution that considers the uniqueness of each body, redefining the way we navigate fashion in the digital realm.
Using my past experience as an architect and lidar scanning consultant, I began thinking of a smart algorithm for easy online clothing shopping. I was drawn to the idea of determining the user's size effortlessly through a 3D body scan or fit quiz feature. To bring this idea to life, I began designing a flow that allows users to seamlessly integrate their sizing details before they begin shopping.
The app is grounded and welcoming, a place where users can freely celebrate their bodies and differences.
Shapes over top images of the human form signify that although each body is unique, technology can be leveraged to analyze, model, and deliver the perfect fit.
Earth tones are used throughout. Soil and clay are moldable and natural, just as a fit can mold to one’s body.
The app guides you through a seamless sizing process where you first input gender, height, and weight information. Then, you are presented with a forked flow to either “Smart Scan” or “Your Fit Quiz.” Let’s take a journey through the flows below.
